Essex Lifestyle visit Mary Turley of the Wonky Wheel Art Gallery in Finchingfield, Essex
Covid-19 has made running any business a very traumatic and difficult time, however, although dramatically affected by this once in a lifetime pandemic Wonky Wheel Art Gallery in Finchingfield has taken the time to develop and change it’s practices to suit the new on-line world that is awaiting us all – the creation of a new website shop where you can view and purchase some beautiful works of art.
Mary Turley the gallery owner and her partner have used their time during these unpresidented times to photograph hundreds of pieces of art from local artist in Finchingfield to some incredible art from further afield.
The actual gallery nestles in the most picturesque village in the country, Finchingfield. Even the window of the gallery is a work of art, one can view the village pond and green, which is probably one of the most photographed village scenes in the country.
Mary says she is looking forward to the gallery opening fully to the public when the green light is switched on and the country starts to get back to some kind of normality.
In September 2020 Wonky Wheel started creative workshops onsite. These workshops form an important service for the local community, bringing a sense of peace and harmony and support mental health and wellbeing. Mary said it is very fulfilling to see people stressed and flushed from their busy lives learning new skills in a relaxing environment and walk away from the workshops completely de-stressed.
To celebrate Wonky Wheel’s first birthday, a creative colouring book competition was launched.
“I’m overwhelmed by the enthusiasm from some of the children as they have been handing me their piece of paper and that they are so proud and chuffed with themselves. We had great response from the 3-10 age group and most popular design where sea, beach, dinosaurs and many more”. I hope this colouring book will support families and children with their mental health and wellbeing during these uncertain times and while we are spending more time at home. I want to thank our Artist-in-residence and my four judges for all their time, help and support with this initiative – Mary said
The Colouring Book Exhibition will take place from 5th December to August 2021. Although you cannot currently visit.
